Kazimir
Malevich
(1879-1935)

The founder of Suprematism, Malevich believed that the movement would be superior to all other movements and would lead to the “supremacy” of pure feeling or perception in the pictorial arts. He was exhibited with the Black Square painting displayed above his deathbed and was buried in a grave marked with a black square.

El Lissitzky
(1890–1941)

A Russian avant-garde painter, photographer, architect, and designer, who along with his mentor Malevich, helped found Suprematism. His art is characterized by clean lines and simple geometric forms and often expressed a fascination with Jewish culture. Lissitzky was a major influence on the Bauhaus and the Constructivist movement.

Olga
Rozanova
(1886-1918)

Rozanova was a Russian avant-garde artist who painted in the styles of Neo-Primitivism and Cubo-Futurism as well as Suprematism. Her paintings were organized by the visual weight and relationship of color, an entirely original method of abstraction.

Rodchenko
(1891-1946)

Rodchenko was a Russian artist, sculptor, photographer, and graphic designer. He was one of the founders of Constructivsm and Russian design.
